Maltodextrins

Maltodextrins are a useful energy source for sports; they are a complex carbohydrate obtained through the process of hydrolysis of starches (usually corn starch is used).

They are, chemically speaking, somewhere between simple and complex carbohydrates, and also metabolically speaking, they are somewhere between simple and complex carbohydrates: this makes maltodextrins very interesting as an energy supplement to be taken before and during long-term physical activity.
