FOR MACRONUTRIENT METABOLISM

What is TN Pharma Glice-Fort and what is it used for?

According to WHO, hyperglycemia is, after hypertension and smoking, the third most important risk factor for premature mortality.

Hyperglycemia is generated by diabetes, a chronic disease characterized by high blood glucose levels and due to impaired insulin quantity or function. Insulin is the hormone, produced by the pancreas, that allows glucose to enter cells and its subsequent use as an energy source. When this mechanism is altered, glucose accumulates in the bloodstream.

There are different types of diabetes diagnosis:

  • DIABETESTYPE 1: It affects about 10% of people with diabetes and usually arises in childhood or adolescence.
  • In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce insulin because of the destruction of the ß-cells that produce this hormone; therefore, it must be injected daily and throughout life.
  • TYPE 2 DIABETES: This is the most common form of diabetes and accounts for about 90% of cases of this disease.
  • In this type of diabetes, the pancreas is able to produce insulin, but the body's cells are then unable to use it. Typically, the disease occurs after the age of 30-40 years, and several risk factors have been recognized to be associated with its onset: family history of diabetes, poor exercise, being overweight, and belonging to certain ethnic groups. Type 2 diabetes is generally not diagnosed for many years because hyperglycemia develops gradually and initially is not severe enough to give the classic symptoms of diabetes. It is usually diagnosed incidentally or in conjunction with a physically stressful situation such as infection or surgery.
  • The risk of developing the disease increases with age, the presence of obesity, and lack of physical activity.This observation allows the implementation of "primary" prevention strategies that can prevent the onset of the disease, such as the application of an appropriate lifestyle, including nutritional aspects and exercise.
  • GESTIONAL DIABETES: elevated circulating glucose level for the first time during pregnancy.
  • This condition occurs in about 4% of pregnancies. The definition is irrespective of the type of treatment used, whether it is dietary only or whether insulin is required, and implies increased frequency of monitoring for the pregnant woman and the fetus; it usually disappears after the pregnancy itself.

Symptomatology depends on the type of diabetes: in the case of type 1 diabetes there is usually an acute onset, with thirst (polydipsia), increased amount of urine (polyuria), feeling tired (asthenia), weight loss, dry skin, increased frequency of infections.

In type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, the symptomatology is more nuanced and usually does not allow for rapid diagnosis, so often the blood sugar is elevated but without the clinical signs of type 1 diabetes.

Diabetes can result in acute or chronic complications. Acute complications are more common in type 1 diabetes, and the most common is ketoacidosis, due to accumulation of the products of altered metabolism, ketones, which causes loss of consciousness, dehydration, and severe blood changes.

In type 2 diabetes, acute complications are quite rare, while chronic complications affecting various organs and tissues, including the eyes, kidneys, heart, blood vessels, and peripheral nerves, are very common.

Since, as we have said, the most common form of diabetes is type 2, and its onset does not occur quickly, there are habits that it is good to acquire to prevent its development. The best therapy, therefore, hinges on the implementation of a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, achieving a healthy weight, physical activity, and abstaining from smoking with the goal of reducing the risk of diabetes complications and cardiovascular disease through the maintenance of normal plasma glucose and lipid values and normal blood pressure values.

It is precisely in this step that taking dietary supplements that keep blood glucose levels low can be of great help.

In this regard, the TN Pharma Research and Development Team has developed GLICE-FORT a dietary supplement designed precisely to help control blood glucose values.

Let's see together what it is composed of:

Curcuma Meriva®

TN Pharma's R&D team to make a turmeric supplement with unparalleled beneficial properties combined with a quality unique in the market decided to use a patented turmeric extract Meriva®.

Meriva® is a special formulation of turmeric that is extremely effective due to the synergistic power of the 3 main curcuminoids, i.e., the active ingredients naturally present in turmeric, which it contains in the same proportions as expected in Nature. In addition, this formulation contains the highest levels of demethoxycurcumin (DMC), the most potent curcuminoid.

Its efficacy is proven by several clinical studies that compared the pharmacokinetic profile of Meriva ® and a standard reference turmeric extract. Curcuminoid bioabsorption was about 29 times higher for Meriva ® than for its corresponding blend of unformulated curcuminoids.

In addition, this special patent can counter muscle soreness and provide stress relief, provide fantastic antioxidant action, and support a healthy inflammatory response during prolonged exercise.

PROCYNCI®

This is a cinnamon extract standardized in polyphenols and procyanidins.

Cinnamon is one of the most widely used spices in confectionery, but, even in ancient times, its anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and gastroprotective properties were known.

Some recent studies, however, have also brought to light its hypoglycemic characteristics, and taking advantage of these studies, we chose Procynci®, a very special ingredient that:

  • modulates postprandial glycemic peaks by inhibiting amylase and glucosidase enzymes;
  • three times more effective than standard cinnamon extracts, helps in pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome;
  • adjuvant in weight loss.

Precisely because it has always been used as a spice, as well as a natural remedy, it is clear that there is a wide variety of cinnamon extracts; the uniqueness of Procynci® lies mainly in the fact that the system of extracting the active ingredients contained is done not only in water, but in water/ethanol (which are then removed). This system makes it possible to remove the amount of coumarins (harmful and forbidden) present in normal extracts and to obtain a higher title of polyphenols and procyanidins with the result of bringing a more intense effect even at lower doses.

This ingredient has been seen to lower blood glucose levels through several mechanisms. First, it goes to act on the insulin receptors on the cells by causing insulin to bring glucose back into the cells by taking it out of the circulating blood. At the same time, cinnamon, stimulates the synthesis of glucose transporter molecules and modulates hepatic glucose metabolism through the synthesis of certain enzymes. It also counteracts diabetes because it helps reduce blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides often associated with that condition.

NEOPUNTIA™ Organic

NeOpuntia™ is a special extract from prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) leaves dehydrated according to a patented process. The main component of NeOpuntia™ is cactus dietary fiber (>35%), but there are also other constituents such as soluble sugars, proteins, lipids, and minerals (mainly calcium, potassium, and magnesium). This active also is

  • organic
  • completely of plant origin
  • environmentally sustainable development.

NeOpuntia™ slows the absorption of dietary carbohydrates and lipids, so it benefits especially diabetics, hyperlipidemic and obese people. Animal studies have been able to confirm the hypoglycemic and cholesterol-lowering properties traditionally ascribed to the plant.

Studies were conducted on both laboratory mice and volunteers with type 2 diabetes.
From the experiments it was observed that the postprandial hyperglycemia of healthy subjects was attenuated more than the reduction of fasting glycemic values in diabetic subjects. In the latter, the hypoglycemic power was shown to be fair and, in cases where the volunteers were not insulin dependent, even excellent.

This is probably due to the fibers present in the leaf pulp: various pectins, cellulose and hemicellulose, which could somehow interfere with glucose absorption. Effect enhanced probably by the enzyme glucose 6-phosphate-isomerase, present in appreciable amounts in prickly pear.

Finally, another study conducted in vivo revealed the interesting antiviral properties of opuntia extracts. Antiviral action appears to be exerted against a wide variety of viruses, both DNA and RNA.

Its effects, in particular, may be:

  • Modulation of blood glucose
  • Balancing blood lipids in particular raising HDL cholesterol levels.

GYMNEMA SILVESTRE

Gymnema sylvestre (Asclepiadaceae) is a perennial, slow-growing species native to India. Its leaves, called "Gurmar" in India, are used to treat diabetes mellitus, a property derived from the presence in this plant of phytoconstituents called gymnemic acids, which belong to the triterpene saponin group.

Gymnemic acids are believed to have the ability to retard blood glucose uptake in several ways. First of all, their molecular rearrangement in space is similar to that of glucose so they bind to receptors on the taste buds inhibiting their activation by the glucose molecules we ingest with food, thus slowing down sugar cravings; similarly it happens in the gut these molecules saturate the receptors for glucose, effectively reducing the absorption of glucose itself.

There are a few possible mechanisms by which Gymnema exerts its hypoglycemic action:

  • Increases insulin secretion;
  • Promotes regeneration of pancreatic islets of Langerhans cells;
  • Increases glucose utilization, increases phosphorylase activity, decreases gluconeogenesis;
  • Causes inhibition of glucose absorption from the intestine.

BANABA

For this extract, some clinical research has scientifically confirmed what has been handed down by folk tradition, demonstrating a hypoglycemic action on humans of Banaba leaf extract.
The active ingredient to which such hypoglycemic properties are attributed is corosolic acid, which reveals an insulin-like mechanism of action, also active by oral administration, that promotes the utilization of glucose by cells, so much so that the name phyto-insulin is attributed to corosolic acid itself.

Of course, an essential condition for the action of corosolic acid to be effective and sufficient is the lifestyle, which, if too unbalanced, would nullify the recognized therapeutic effects of Banaba. It is also supposed that a mechanism called the "memory effect" is established, which would allow the body to benefit from the hypoglycemic action even a month after discontinuing the intake, which in any case can be repeated periodically for a longer or shorter time, depending on the starting situation.
It is important to note that fluctuations in blood sugar levels stimulate hunger and cravings for food, especially sweets, so regulating glycemic levels can be assumed to improve dietary control, which will also be useful in promoting weight loss.

At the same time as reducing blood sugar, corosolic acid inhibits the differentiation of adipocytes (the cells in whose cytoplasm fat is deposited, and which go on to form adipose tissue), constituting an additional aid in combating overweight.

We can conclude by saying that Banaba finds its use of choice in controlling blood sugar levels, which has also been found to be useful in combating obesity and overweight, and in countering nervous hunger due to blood sugar fluctuation, as well as in improving overall lipid balance.

SAFFRON

It is commonly used in cooking as a spice but contains numerous active ingredients that result in its important health effects: for example, it is useful in treating blood sugar-related disorders. Improvement of the glycemic profile by saffron within this hyperglycemia supplement may prevent complications of diabetes through inhibition of molecular pathways of hyperglycemia.

Saffron significantly lowers plasma glucose and insulin levels and improves the serum glycemic profile through several metabolic pathways: first, in muscle cells and adipocytes it acts by promoting the activity of the glucose transporter GLUT4 (glucotransporter 4), facilitating the reduction of plasma glucose levels, which is transferred from the circulatory stream to the interior of the cell. Here it can be used as an energy source or converted into fat. Saffron's activities do not end there:

  • Improves insulin response.
  • Down regulation of adiponectin and TNF-α.
  • Reduces levels of free fatty acids and triglycerides.
  • Improves and prevents oxidative stress.
  • Also prevents inflammatory processes involved in insulin resistance.

There is also to be considered the prevention of pancreatic beta-cell (insulin-producing) damage through inhibition of biochemical pathways that cause oxidative stress and inflammation and suppression of caspase-dependent β-cell damage. In addition, saffron protects against oxidative stress by enhancing antioxidant elements and neutralizing free radicals.

Further elevating the efficacy of this product are also White GELSO extract and CHROMIUM, which maintain blood glucose levels in the normal range so they are useful in cases of both prediabetes and overt diabetes.

In conclusion, GLICE-FORT was created as a powerful ally to help counteract uncontrolled elevation of blood glucose levels by accompanying medical therapy or, in milder cases, as the tool of choice for glycemic control.

The high technological innovation of the raw materials contained corroborates the safety of the product, which can boast of being certified VEGAN, GLUTEN-FREE and lactose-FREE, to enable it to be taken by gluten- and lactose-intolerant individuals as well.
