What is Flexi-Fort and what is it used for ?

The joint represents a region of contact between: bone and bone, cartilage and bone, teeth and bone. Its strength and flexibility depend on its structure; its mobility, on the other hand, depends:

• On the tension of the associated muscles and tendons
• On the flexibility of the ligaments that connect the bones
• On the shape of the articulating bones.

Cartilage is the part that lines the bones where there are joints and has a protective role of the bones themselves, supporting them to resist continuous movement. Cartilage is made up of water (about 60 percent), collagen (about 30 percent) and sugars and proteins (the remaining 10 percent) and has considerable elasticity to play the role of shock absorbers between joints. The human body has about 400 joints, and all of them serve to give mobility and flexibility to the body but are also potential sources of pain. Joint pain, which occurs mainly (but not exclusively) with advancing age, is one of the most common health problems.

TYPES: Basically, it can be caused by infection or inflammation (ARTHRITIS), or it can result from wear and tear of cartilage (OSTEOARTRITE) or even from an accident or injury.

SYMPTOMS: It may begin for no apparent reason or when a specific movement is made, appear gradually or suddenly, decrease or persist when resting, last for a short time or persist for a long time. It may also be accompanied by several different symptoms that are more or less debilitating: joint stiffness, often after a period of inactivity or in the morning, swelling, redness, feeling of heat in the joint, reduced flexibility, loss of mobility.

CAUSES: It can be TRAUMATIC in origin after an accident, INFIAMMATORY when a joint becomes inflamed, MECHANICAL due to wear and tear or deformities, INFECTIVE when triggered by a virus, or CRYSTAL DEPOSIT when caused by diseases such as gout.

In all cases, if the pain is accompanied by swelling or redness, if it worsens and persists, and especially if fever is added to these symptoms, a doctor should be consulted for a product or take collagen supplements to improve joint function with antioxidant action.

BOSWELLIA APRESFLEX®

ApresFlex® is a special patented extract of Boswellia serrata, an Indian tree with long-recognized therapeutic properties. In Africa and Asia, for example, natural extracts of Boswellia serrata are traditionally used to relieve inflammatory pain primarily affecting the joints, including that associated with arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, but also to treat other conditions such as asthma and some inflammatory bowel diseases.

The benefits derive from'exceptional content in boswellic and pentacyclic acids, principles that have as their mechanism d'action the'inhibition of the pro-inflammatory enzyme 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), a key enzyme in the cellular inflammatory cascade, which leads to the production of leukotrienes (B4) from arachidonic acid. In fact, in a placebo-controlled clinical trial, the'Boswellia extract contributed to freedom of movement and relief of joint discomfort in as little as 8 weeks. Another randomized clinical trial showed very similar results, with benefits continuing for another four weeks.

As a result, joint pain is reduced, improved ability and speed of movement giving benefit to virtually all categories from athletes to the elderly to those suffering from arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

ApresFlex® has the advantage of being standardized to 30 percent acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid (AKBA), is free of side effects, therefore, is a safe raw material. For maximum effectiveness, it should be taken preferably with food.

MSM is an abbreviation of the name of a molecule, methylsulfonylmethane, a source of organic sulfur naturally occurring in many mammals and a variety of plants. DEVIL'S CLAW

It has long been known that Devil's Claw extracts exert analgesic, antiphlogistic and anti-arthritic activity. The phytocomplex is now used in the symptomatic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and in osteoarthritis, osteoarthritis, and other rheumatic diseases. The activity of this plant is mainly referred to harpagoside, which is the active present in the greatest quantity in it; however, as with most plants, the administration of the single active ingredient does not exactly reproduce the activity observed with the phytocomplex in toto, moreover, it has recently been discovered that other compounds present in the Devil's Claw phytocomplex also show inhibitory activity in the expression of cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), an enzyme involved in inflammatory processes. Anti-inflammatory power is also exerted topically, due to high diffusion of the active at the transcutaneous level.

The most credited mechanism of action for this ingredient is inhibition of COX-2 and inhibition of iNOS expression, which are two enzymes: the former leads to the release of prostaglandins (which are mediators of inflammation), the latter to the release of Nitric Oxide. When these two pathways are inhibited by devil's claw, a powerful antiphlogistic action is achieved.

Claw is also attributed with antirheumatic action but it is hypothesized to be by a different mechanism than that of common nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). For this reason, the use of Claw is not complicated by the gastrointestinal side effects typical of NSAIDs.

GLUCOSAMINE

Glucosamine is an important sugar for the synthesis of several natural substances, such as sugars, lipids, and proteins. Glucosamine is also a component of keratin sulfate and hyaluronic acid, which are also found in articular cartilage and joint lubricating (synovial) fluid. It is either produced from crustacean shells or from fermentation of grain, or synthesized in the laboratory.

There are several forms of it: glucosamine sulfate, glucosamine hydrochloride, and N-acetylglucosamine. Since the sulfate group is important for cartilage production, glucosamine sulfate is thought to be more effective than other types of glucosamine that do not contain it.

Being an important precursor of essential components of articular cartilage (proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans, GAGs), glucosamine helps to keep cartilage intact, a tissue that acts as a shock-absorbing cushion by protecting the articular ends of bones from friction.

In osteoarthritis and arthritis, cartilage is normally thinned or torn.

Glucosamine sulfate, alone or in combination with chondroitin and/or other components, such as methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), is widely used to treat osteoarthritis and, more generally, to relieve joint pain and stiffness.

Several properties are attributed to it, including strengthening joints and helping to preserve the structure and degree of elasticity of cartilage, relieve pain, and improve joint function. Glucosamine administration has been shown to result in the inhibition of type II collagen degradation and an increase in collagen synthesis, stimulating the production of new cartilage tissue.
