What is TN Pharma Probio-Fort and what is it for?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), also referred to as "spastic colitis" or "irritable bowelsyndrome ," typically presents with discomfort or abdominal pain, which improves after evacuation; the bowel may be constipated, diarrheic, or mixed type, that is, alternating between constipation and diarrhea. Often sufferers complain of weakness and fatigue in addition to reduced quality of life.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome often occurs in association with other disorders of the digestive tract, such as functional dyspepsia and gastroesophageal reflux disease, as well as other conditions, including celiac disease. A high percentage of individuals also present with headache, back pain, insomnia, weakness, fibromyalgia, chronic pelvic pain, and temporomandibular joint pain.

IBSIUM®

This specific strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was registered with the French National Collection of Microorganism Cultures as CNCM I3856, and was protected by international patent after demonstrating a significant effect in improving abdominal pain and discomfort in subjects with IBS.

As shown in Figure 1, results show a significant reduction in intestinal pain and discomfort after 4 weeks of administration in 63% of subjects who received the Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain CNCM I-3856, compared with 47% in the placebo group.

The second clinical trial was a multicenter trial with the following groups of volunteers: 83% women in both groups, mean age 45 years, which is a representative figure of the prevalence of IBS in the overall population. For 12 weeks, each received Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 (8×109 CFU/g) or a placebo.

In both clinical trials, IbSium® was very well tolerated and no product-related side effects were reported. These results suggest that Saccharomyces cerevisiae CNCM I-3856 could be a new and safe strategy to improve abdominal pain and discomfort in patients with IBS symptoms and, due to the absence of side effects, can also be used for long-term treatment.
