What is NADH?
NADH is the reduced form of NAD+, a molecule found in all living cells. It is a coenzyme essential for redox reactions – that is, the chemical processes that enable electrons to be transferred from one molecule to another and generate energy. In our bodies, NADH is mainly produced in the mitochondria during the Krebs cycle and the electron transport chain.
What is NADH used for?
NADH plays a crucial role in energy metabolism. Its main function is to supply electrons to the electron transport chain in the mitochondria, a process that leads to the production of ATP, the body’s main source of energy. Without NADH, cells would be unable to produce enough energy to sustain vital functions.
In addition to energy production, NADH is involved in many other biological processes, including:
- Neurotransmitter synthesis – it contributes to the production of dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline, which are essential for mood balance and cognitive function.
- Protection against free radicals – thanks to its antioxidant action, it helps reduce oxidative stress and prevent cellular damage.
- Support for the immune system – it plays a part in the body’s defence mechanisms against viruses and bacteria.
Mitochondria and sirtuins: what are they and what do they do?
Mitochondria are organelles found in every cell of our body and act as the body’s ‘powerhouses’. This is where ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is produced; it is the main source of energy used to carry out all biological functions, from movement to cell regeneration.
Sirtuins, meanwhile, are a family of proteins involved in metabolic regulation, cellular longevity and DNA repair. Their activity depends on the availability of NAD+, the oxidised form of NADH, which acts as a key cofactor.
When NADH and NAD+ levels are optimal, the mitochondria function more efficiently and the sirtuins can fulfil their role properly, promoting better energy metabolism and counteracting cellular ageing.
NADH PURE PROFESSIONAL PANMOL® QUALITY
Given the great potential of NADH, Tsunami Nutrition has developed NADH Pure PROFESSIONAL, an NADH-based supplement featuring the PANMOL® patent, capable of promoting cellular energy production, stimulating metabolism, reducing cholesterol levels, improve concentration and provide psychophysical support for athletes, reducing recovery times whilst boosting energy and performance.
Taking NADH Pure PROFESSIONAL is particularly recommended not only for the excellent anti-ageing effect mentioned earlier, but also because it can be an excellent choice for athletes seeking to enhance their sporting performance by gaining strength, vitality and vigour, or who wish to improve their memory or cognitive functions.
Furthermore, NADH can provide excellent support for patients with high blood pressure or heart problems, or those suffering from Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, as well as for people with chronic fatigue syndrome and depression.
In summary, NADH Pure PROFESSIONAL, containing the patented ingredient PANMOL®, is capable of:
- Support brain function, cognition, energy, memory and alertness, whilst improving mood, reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of calm.
- Promote muscle recovery and athletic performance.
- Relieve symptoms of fatigue, overtraining, lethargy and jet lag.
- Improve cardiovascular health, brain health and, above all, liver detoxification.
- Support cellular energy and mitochondrial function, as well as overall metabolism.
NADH and SPORT
With regard to sporting performance, several studies in recent years have demonstrated how the inclusion of NADH in the diets of athletes across various disciplines, both aerobic and anaerobic, has led to a marked improvement in performance after just one month of treatment with 10 mg per day. Taking NADH increases cellular ATP levels, providing the body with a greater amount of immediately usable energy.
This is one of the key reasons why NADH is used to enhance athletic performance. Other researchers have confirmed that NADH supplementation leads to a significant reduction in recovery times, but above all to an increase in oxygenation capacity and reaction times after just 20 days of taking a mere 5 mg of NADH per day.
Another study carried out on a football team, in which players were given a dose of just 5 mg of NADH per day for a month, showed improvements in concentration, alertness, reaction time and exercise endurance. It doesn’t stop there, as further evidence has recently emerged from Italy involving strength and power athletes (bodybuilders, weightlifters and rugby players) taking daily doses of 20 mg.
The athletes who took NADH showed a modest increase in performance, but also surprised observers with a drastic reduction in recovery times; this equates to an increase in overall performance. We can therefore state that high-quality pure NADH, such as our patented PANMOL®, is establishing itself on the market not only as a nutraceutical useful for anti-ageing, but also as a means of enhancing and supporting physical performance.
NAD+ or NADH?
Leaving aside the various and often overly technical answers circulating online, I’d like to give you a simple and straightforward answer so that you can understand this difference once and for all. In a nutshell, NAD+ is simply the oxidised form of NADH.
It has a lower energy profile, particularly when compared to PANMOL® NADH. Furthermore, NAD+ is easily broken down by the body and does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier.
How and when should you take NADH Pure Professional?
PANMOL®-quality NADH Pure Professional is available in easy-to-take capsules that are VEGAN, GLUTEN-FREE AND LACTOSE-FREE. By taking just one capsule, you will provide your body with 10 mg of NADH of the highest quality and maximum bioavailability, allowing you to benefit from all the advantages described above.
In some treatment regimens, NADH intake may reach up to 20 or 30 mg, but I would advise you to seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional. To date, there are no known contraindications or side effects associated with taking NADH, provided the recommended dose is adhered to.
Of course, every body responds differently and the effects may vary. That is why I always advise you to seek guidance from an expert who will design a bespoke programme for you, enabling you to achieve your goal under the best possible conditions.
