Clinical studies: an in-depth analysis

Researchers have investigated the effect of Testofen® through several human studies and one animal study.

An 8-week, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial showed positive results in three main areas:

  • Free testosterone levels: Typical free testosterone levels fall within the range of 5 to 50 pg/ml. Subjects who took Testofen® showed a 99 per cent increase in free testosterone compared with baseline after the 8-week period. Subjects on placebo showed no statistically significant increase.
  • Body fat: Subjects who took Testofen® experienced a statistically significant reduction in body fat, as measured by skinfold thickness at the thighs and biceps. Whilst skinfold thickness decreased, the subjects maintained the same body weight, indicating an increase in muscle mass.
  • Muscle mass: An additional measure of muscle mass was taken using blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels. BUN levels would be expected to decrease if subjects were experiencing a loss of muscle mass. As BUN levels remained unchanged whilst skinfold thickness decreased, it was concluded that the subjects had experienced an increase in muscle mass and a decrease in body fat.

A second study was conducted in Australia. This randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was carried out on 54 subjects who were administered Testofen® combined with magnesium, elemental zinc and pyridoxine. It resulted in statistically significant improvements in overall male sexual health.

The study used the DISF-SR (a benchmark index for sexual health) and a general quality-of-life questionnaire to measure the parameters. Testofen® showed statistically significant increases both overall and across all four domains of the DISF-SR:

  • Sexual cognition
  • Sexual arousal
  • Sexual experience
  • Orgasm

Furthermore, Testofen® had a positive effect on these quality of life (QOL) parameters, whilst the placebo had no effect:

  • Recovery time following sexual activity
  • Quality of sexual performance
  • Libido
  • Overall energy levels
  • General well-being

A third study was conducted in Australia and aimed to assess the efficacy of Testofen® on the symptoms of andropause. This 12-week, single-site, double-blind, randomised clinical trial single-centre, double-blind, randomised clinical trial was conducted on 120 male subjects, aged between 43 and 70, who reported symptoms of andropause (male menopause) and were otherwise considered healthy.

Participants were asked to complete the Aging Male Symptom (AMS) questionnaire, which comprised seventeen questions divided into three sub-scales (psychological, somatic and sexual). This questionnaire helped to measure the severity of andropause symptoms. In addition, this study also used the DISF-SR to measure the parameters.

Testofen® was shown to significantly reduce the typical symptoms of andropause in the active treatment group at weeks 6 and 12, as measured by the total AMS score and across all sub-domains (except the psychological sub-score), compared with the placebo.

Overall, Testofen® was shown to effectively reduce typical andropause symptoms and improve sexual health by significantly increasing arousal, sexual desire and sexual activity, as well as levels of free and total testosterone.

A fourth study was conducted to assess the efficacy of Testofen® on muscle strength, aerobic endurance and body composition in healthy, physically active men.

A total of 98 men completed the study. Thirty-one were in the group treated with 600 mg of Testofen®, 35 were in the group treated with 300 mg, and 32 were in the placebo group.

There were no significant differences between the active treatment and placebo groups in terms of age, anthropometric measurements, medical conditions, lifestyle factors or baseline exercise measures. The 600 mg group showed a statistically significant improvement:

  • Improved lower-body strength compared with the placebo
  • Reduction in body mass compared with the 300 mg group and the placebo group
  • Increase in the percentage of lean body mass compared with the 300 mg and placebo groups
  • Decrease in the percentage of fat mass and body fat compared with placebo
  • Increase from baseline in functional threshold power (FTP), with an improvement of 7.6 watts compared with placebo
  • Increase in total testosterone levels compared with placebo
